What is the commission?
The artist's percentage from all sales is 60%.
Why is RED DOT Project a not for profit?
RED DOT Project is a non-profit art resource center with a mission to connect Northeast Ohio artists and arts entrepreneurs with business opportunities. Similar to other non-profit art registries in its mission to provide visibility for artists, RED DOT Project expands these traditional slide and image registry services through targeted marketing services and a web-site that serves as a virtual portfolio of art from northeast Ohio. By providing a central clearinghouse for regional art, the project creates an easy and efficient viewing and selection process for business, corporate, and individual clients, as well as for gallery owners, curators, and art consultants looking for art to purchase, sell, display or exhibit. As a non-profit, RED DOT is able to collaborate and partner with other non-profits, arts service providers, arts advocates and business partners without exclusivity to provide a full range of resources and benefits for arts entrepreneurs.
When a piece of my art sells, when will I receive payment?
All sales records for each month are processed and sent for disbursement together at the beginning of the following month. Artists will receive payment before the end of the month following each sale.
I only do paintings, how can I participate?
If you have sketches of your work, small studies on paper, prints of your paintings, you will be able to participate. A CD of images of other work will be kept onsite if a client is interested in other works by a particular artist.
I am a sculptor and you represent my work digitally. What happens if I sell the piece independently?
It is all about communication. Let us know that you sold it so we are not presenting it to our clients and be upfront if the client found you through RED DOT Project.
My work is done by commission only. Are you interested in showing images of what I do?
Absolutely. We are presenting the introductory work on paper, but also working with clients on site specific work - Art as Environment. We will work with you as we do with our sculptors and three dimensional artists by presenting images of the work that can created specifically for a client.
Why do I have to pay to participate?
As a not for profit resource center, we have been supported by generous funding agencies. These agencies are more willing to invest in a project designed to support artists if the artists are also investing. The fee establishes artists that are professional and willing to invest in their work. Artists receive significant value for this $75 investment including their own portfolio and space in a drawer and on-line presence on a site. Digital portfolios on disk will be stored in our space. A professional, not a website, will be taking your work out and showing it to our target audience.
Is this an exclusive contract?
No, but we ask that you reciprocate the commission structure if a client who found you through RED DOT Project makes a direct purchase.
What I work through another gallery?
If you have an exclusive relationship with a gallery, we have a shared commission structure with that gallery. We are an art resource center with the mission of connecting artists, and the galleries that represent them, with business and sales. We are looking to expand galleries markets as well as artists markets. For more Gallery information, click here.
My work is not really flat, but it is not 3-dimensional either. How can I participate?
We have the ability to store pieces that are marginally thicker than paper. We will work with individual artists as this applies.
How long does the membership last? Will I have to pay every year?
The membership will last for one year. We ask that you keep the work fresh by rotating every six months. We are looking for mutually beneficial relationships to sustain the project.
Who makes up the 'artist peer review'?
The artists that will be working with us to select professional quality artist that will be the RED DOT Project include Herb Aschermann, Mark Howard, James Massena March, Arabella Proffer, Damon Reaves, Mindy Tousley, Doug Utter. We will be bringing on a three dimensional artist to also assist with the process.
Can I bring in my work or does it have to be digital?
The peer review process includes a review of several works of artists at a time. We are conducting this as a blind review process and therefore need to have digital images to work with.
Can you just look at my website?
We are happy to review your site, but because of the process (see above), we would prefer to have digital images that we can keep together with your application.
